Fit at Fifty — Day One

So it is January 1, 2023. I am 49 and 9 months away from being 50. My New Years' resolution is to be #fitatfifty. I am already sort of fit but could use some work. My family history is sorted with heart disease, my father passed at 69 from a stroke, and my younger brother died at 37 due to a massive heart attack. It is pretty clear that their lifestyle contributed to their heart problems and that I am at risk of falling into the same trap.

This blog is for me. I hope it to be two things: 1) me keeping my promise to myself that I will write and 2) a source of motivation. If it achieves more than that, then good. If not, that's okay.

Where do things currently stand? Well, I am 181 cm tall and weigh 93kg. Therefore I am overweight. According to a standard BMI calculator, I should be about 81 kg to be in the “normal” weight range. So for now, that is my target, 81kg by age 50.

What is my plan? That I am not sure about. Diet, exercise, giving up sugar, minimal alcohol, all the no-brainers, but beyond that, I don’t know. I also hope to post at least once a week, if for nothing more than to track my progress and hold myself accountable. See you in a week, Medium.
